Xiaomi confirmed that the Redmi Note 4G will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop update this year, but did not share details on the exact release date of the upgrade.

Today, the Chinese company made a surprising announcement regarding the Redmi Note 4G and confirmed that a new update, not Lollipop, is now available for this smartphone.

According to The Next Digit, those who own the Redmi Note 4G can now download a new update on their devices which brings MIUI version 6.3.5, based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system.

This is still a welcome addition considering Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G was launched back in August 2014 with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean platform on board.

Given its popularity in Asia, it was of utmost importance that the Redmi Note 4G would get at least Android 4.4 KitKat as quickly as possible. Even though it happened more than six months after its official release, there's hope that the next major update, Android 5.0 Lollipop, won't be delayed so much.

One of the reasons Xiaomi has decided to provide Redmi Note 4G users with a firmware update was the amount of bugs affecting the smartphone, especially the camera and lag issues.

The update is now being pushed in India and Taiwan

The latest update promises to fix these issues and bring the MIUI user interface to version 6.3.5. The size of the Android 4.4.4 KitKat upgrade is about 577MB, so make sure you have a stable Wi-Fi connection before attempting to download it.

Beginning today, Xiaomi Redmi Note 4G users in India and Taiwan should receive the update OTA (over the air). Make sure you check for it manually in case you are notified in the next couple of days.

The Chinese handset maker is expected to deliver another major update to Redmi Note 4G devices, Android 5.0 Lollipop, in the coming weeks. More details on the exact release date will be shared closer to launch so stay tuned for more details on the matter.
