Shortly after launching the 4G version of Redmi Note, the Chinese company Xiaomi has announced that another of its extremely affordable Android smartphones will receive the same treatment, the Redmi.

According to Xiaomi, the 4G version of Xiaomi Redmi will be available for purchase in China starting August 16 for only 699 Yuan, which is about $110 or €80.

Unfortunately, there’s no indication that Xiaomi Redmi 4G will be launched in other countries as well, but considering that the 3G version had tremendous success in every other region where it was released, we wouldn’t be surprised to see it being available in other places as well.

The bad news for those who already own the 3G version is that the 4G model does no come with any other upgrades except for the mobile data speed.

Xiaomi Redmi 4G will arrive in China on August 16 with TD-LTE support inside, but no FDD-LTE, so keep that in mind before making your purchase.

If launched in other countries, the smartphone is likely to offer support for other 4G networks as well, but for the moment it’s only compatible with FDD-LTE standard.

The Redmi 4 would be the perfect handset for those who have never owned an Android device before or another smartphone at all. Given its low price and more than decent specs, it could also be great upgrade for those who own entry-level smartphones.

Spec-wise, here is what you can get with the Xiaomi Redmi 4G. Apart from 4G support, the smartphone comes equipped with 1.5GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6589T processor and 1GB of RAM.

The Redmi 4G also packs 4GB of internal memory, but users can also expand storage up to 32GB via microSD card slot. On the back, the handset boasts an enhanced 8-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording, while in the front there’s a secondary 1.3-megapixel camera for selfies and video calls.

Sadly, the phone does not offer dual-SIM capability, but it provides users with Google’s latest Android 4.4 KitKat operating system out of the box and MIUI 5.

The handset also sports a more than decent 4.7-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports HD (720p) resolution and features Corning Gorilla Glass 2 coating.

The Redmi 4G is powered by a high-capacity 2000mAh battery, which has yet to be rated by the manufacturer. Other highlights of the smartphone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 with A2DP, USB on the go, and GPS with A-GPS support.
