Xiaomi and Meizu are still competing for the Chinese smartphone market. Though many would say that the former has already won due to its recently confirmed number 4 position in top 5 world’s largest smartphone manufacturers, things are a bit complicated when it comes to China.

Meizu has one of the most popular Android smartphones available on the Chinese market, the MX4, which is in short supply due to high demand.

The situation has been noticed by Meizu’s main rivals, which are now trying to counter the popularity of the MX4 with new devices that will soon make their way on the market.

That’s the case for Xiaomi’s Mi4 Youth Edition smartphone, which is expected to hit shelves in China in the next couple of days. The handset has been priced at 1,799 yuan, which is about $295 or €235 outright, GizChina reports.

In comparison, the standard Xiaomi Mi4 is available for purchase for $400 (€320) outright and the Chinese handset maker ships internationally as well, but customers will have to pay an additional shipping fee.

Anyway, the Youth Edition is a downgraded version of the Xiaomi Mi4, which is meant to dethrone the Meizu MX4 as one of the most popular Android smartphones in China.

The Mi4 Youth Edition would be a worthy competitor for Meizu's MX4

However, aside from the lower RAM size, the Youth Edition seems to keep the same specs as the standard version, which makes it a great deal for those looking to pick up a cheap high-end smartphone.

Xiaomi Mi4 Youth Edition is powered by 2GB of RAM, whereas the standard model packs 3GB of RAM and thus it’s more expensive. Still, this doesn’t justify the price gap between the two Xiaomi Mi4 smartphones.

Anyway, let’s see what those who are going for the Youth Edition of Xiaomi Mi4 will get for the price they pay. First of all, the Mi4 Youth Edition is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, an Adreno 330 graphics processing unit and 2GB of RAM.

The smartphone comes with 32GB of internal memory, but it lacks microSD card slot for memory expansion. Furthermore, the Mi4 Youth Edition sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display that supports full HD (1080p) resolution.

There’s also a 13-megapixel photo snapper on the back, which features autofocus, dual-LED flash and 4K video recording, while in the front there’s an impressive 8-megapixel camera for perfect selfies.

It’s also worth mentioning that the smartphone will be powered by Android 4.4.3 KitKat operating system with MIUI 5.0 on top.
