Xiaomi to respond to the Apple Watch release with a product

Apple has recently unveiled its heavily anticipated Watch product, which will finally go on sale on April 24. There are plenty of alternatives to the Apple Watch from the Android Wear ecosystem that are also a lot cheaper, but the best one might be yet to come.

Since up-and-coming Chinese device maker Xiaomi has gained the nickname of “China’s Apple,” it’s no wonder the company is also heading down the path of smartwatches.

After Apple, Xiaomi is also prepping an intelligent timepiece

According to a new report spotted at Gizmo China, Xiaomi is also gearing up to produce an intelligent timepiece of its own. The budget-phone maker has recently branched out into several new markets, including that of action cameras, so going into the overly hyped smartwatch business is not really a shock.

The rumor mill is calling the device the Xiaomi Smart Watch for the time being, but by the time the device actually launches, we might end up seeing it come out under a different moniker altogether.

The Watch is said to bring a large dial and pulse wave velocity identification. This means users will be able to verify their identities by virtue of measuring their own individual pulse waves.

However, concerns have arisen that if this technology ends up being implemented, an extraordinary amount of energy would be required to power the whole shenanigan.

The Xiaomi Smart Watch is expected to be pretty premium looking, arriving with a brushed metal design which will apparently be very similar to the one we've seen on the HTC One M9. The watch should probably arrive with a round dial and a very thin frame.

And given that it is a Xiaomi product, it will surely have a highly competitive price, maybe below $100 / €78.

Xiaomi is also prepping a second fitness band

Apart from the smartwatch, Xiaomi is also said to be working on a sequel to its wallet-friendly Mi Band fitness tracker, which the company introduced last year.

The fitness wearable proved to be quite successful, shipping in one million units in the first three months since release.

The next-gen fitness band should be taking advantage of a new NFC sensor, compared to the original model which took advantage of Bluetooth connectivity and an accelerometer.
