I have been reporting rumors about a purported Xiaomi tablet for a while now. Now we get even more hints indicating a tablet might be in the cards for the company.

As we know, popular Chinese smartphone marker has been producing a custom Android interface baptized MIUI for handsets, ever since they launched their first products on the market.

Now it appears, Xiaomi is ready to move on to the tablet space. The company launched a new version of the MIUI optimized for the bigger screen, basically meaning tablets, reports Engadget.

At the moment, the open beta for the Google Nexus 7 2013 tablet is available, so owners of the slate will first be allowed to try the Xiaomi interface out on their slates.

Those installing MIUI on their tablet will find they can run pretty much any app they would have been able to run before. The difference between the two interfaces is a new custom app launcher, settings panel, icons and an extra set of apps including MIUI music player, gallery app and more.

Furthermore, the tablet-companion MIUI will come bundled with new layouts for landscape and portrait orientation, plus new animations.

Xiaomi’s first tablet has been awaited for months and, when it eventually lands, the slate will have a proper MIUI interface waiting for it.
