David Politis, the chief marketing officer at Xi3, says that the upcoming Piston hardware will include three modular boards that can be used to quickly and easily implement hardware upgrades.

The processor board can be changed, and the APU, which mixes elements form a GPU and CPU, can also be removed for an upgrade.

The RAM of the Piston can be increased if the player wants improved performance.

The Primary I/O board can also be changed, allowing players to upgrade the SSD.

The same can be done for the Secondary I/O Board, which includes video ports and other connectors.

Politis has also told Siliconera that, “As new technologies are introduced into the marketplace (USB, eSATA, video standards/ports, etc), we will evaluate these, and as we feel appropriate, we will create new Boards that will be available for purchase by our customers. This also holds true for new RAM and APUs.”
