14 DAY TRIAL // Although for some people the field of multifunction printers is a lot less "glamorous" than that of high-end mobile phones, advanced portable computing systems or PMPs, for example, the truth of the matter is that MFPs are actually extremely important for the business segment. For this reason, the Xerox company has just announced two brand new products of this type, namely the Phaser 3300MFP and the WorkCentre 4260MFP, which provide complete document handling solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
The first model, the Phaser 3300MFP, is aimed specifically at small businesses, and that's visible right from its affordable price tag (just $599). The device offers printing, copying, scanning and color faxing capabilities, and in this context it can attain print and copy speeds of up to 30 pages per minute (ppm). It also has the ability to scan in color and black-and-white directly to a USB thumb drive, e-mail or the network, since it's been equipped with Xerox’s Scan to PC Desktop software, which allows users to send a document from the MFP straight to their PC desktop for viewing, editing and storing.
The multifunction printer can also tackle a range of everyday office print jobs including automatic two-sided printing. It has a 50-sheet multipurpose tray that can handle a wide variety of paper weights and sizes ranging from postcards to legal-size documents.
The second model announced today by Xerox is the WorkCentre 4260, designed for medium-sized businesses, where continuous workflow is extremely important. Thus, the WorkCentre 4260’s multitasking capabilities allow multiple workers to print, copy, scan and fax at the same time. If one print job happens to be held up because of a lack of resources, the Print Around feature makes sure other print jobs will continue without interruption, saving workers from unnecessary downtime.
In addition, the WorkCentre 4260 comes with a seven-inch color graphical touchscreen that is simple to use and not typically found in this class of products. Another interesting feature is the Fax Forward to E-mail function, which saves time and paper by automatically routing incoming faxes to an e-mail address.
The WorkCentre 4260 also comes with automatic two-sided printing and the Save Print feature allows users to store frequently used documents and forms on the hard drive for fast printing. And speaking of printing speed, it's interesting to note that the device can attain print and copy speeds of up to 55 ppm. However, it does so at a price, since it's pretty expensive, selling for around $2,999.
