Scientists from the well know Xerox Company have announced the launch of a brand new software program: FactSpotter. The new searching capabilities make this program very special. FactSpotter excels the keyword search standard by making an analytic interpretation of the content in which the information is stored. "The usual search programs reach only 40% of the documents really relevant for the solicited information and this because of the limitation determined by the keywords" declares Fr?d?rique Segond, the manager of the semantic research division at Xerox Research Center Europe.

He has also explained that the FactSpotter program is a more accurate instrument and this because of the way it works: it reaches the inside of the documents, analyzes it and extracts not only the concepts but also the relations between them. Fr?d?rique Segond said that "by understanding the context, the program find the information the user needs and even highlights the exact location of the searched answer in the document".

FactSpotter has a very easy-to-use interface and its force comes from the fact that it combines the interpretation based on a high-quality analysis with a very powerful linguistic engine. What makes this software different from the others? Well, FactSpotter isn't searching only for the keywords employed by the user, but by means of its analytical capabilities, it also finds their context. Here's an example: if we are searching for a personality by first and last name, then FactSpotter will also identify the texts referring to that personality, even if it doesn't contain those exact words.

Another advantage of this search engine is its ability to "crawl" the documents regardless of the language, font and location. The information processing is also one of the program's benefits because it is very similar to the human intellect. It is designed to respond to the usual questions and the search results are very well filtered: only the relevant documents will appear on the search page. In addition, the search results will not lead the users towards one document, but to the exact paragraph where the keyword is.

FactSpotter brings the search engines to the next evolution level, and that is a part of a Xerox's long-term research and development strategy. That completes the company's innovation list in the document's management services. These new technologies are dedicated especially to clients in the financial or juridical domain, but it can also extend to users that simply care for a better management of their documents and data.
