Today, Microsoft has made available for download a new application for the owners of Windows Phone 8 smartphones, namely Xbox Video.

The software had been spotted online several weeks back, but no official confirmation on its availability had been provided until today, when it landed in the Windows Phone Store.

With Xbox Video on their devices, Windows Phone 8 users will be able to enjoy the latest movies and TV shows while on the go, as it makes it easier to watch them regardless of where they are.

The mobile client also provides users with the possibility to stream and download to their smartphones all the Xbox Video content that they purchase through Xbox Video.

Thus, they can make sure that they will be able to watch their favorite shows even when they do not have a data connection available.

“Rent and buy new blockbuster movies and favorite classics, or catch up on last night's episodes of the hottest TV shows, and watch them on your Windows Phone 8, PC, tablet, Xbox One, Xbox 360, or at XboxVideo.com,” Microsoft notes in the application’s description.

The best part of the deal, however, is the fact that no other mobile platform can enjoy the feature, as Xbox Video was made available for download only on Windows Phone 8 smartphones.

The mobile application can be downloaded for free from the Windows Phone Store as version 1.5.1256.6, allowing users not only to get the latest TV shows the day after they air, but also offering access to ratings and reviews.

Moreover, the application provides them with the possibility to resume watching from where they left off, and also brings trailers to their smartphones.

On the downside, Xbox Video for Windows Phone 8 does not come with support for HD video playback, which means that users will have to head over to Xbox 360, Xbox One, or to a Windows 8 machine to enjoy this functionality.
