Microsoft has confirmed that in honor of the season 3 premiere of popular TV series Game of Thrones, it's updating the special Xbox SmartGlass app to provide all sorts of interactive content that will help viewers stay up to speed with everything that's happening in Westeros.

The Xbox SmartGlass application was revealed to the world at E3 2012 last year and has since been released for tablets powered by Windows 8 and the iPad in order to provide relevant content to Xbox 360 owners who enjoy different types of entertainment on their console.

Now, ahead of the Game of Thrones season 3 premiere, Microsoft's Xbox community manager Larry Hryb confirmed on his blog that Xbox SmartGlass is going to receive support for the popular HBO series.

While watching Game of Thrones using the HBO Go app on the Xbox 360 you can run Xbox Smartglass on a Windows 8 tablet or iPad and check out interactive maps, character guides, behind the scenes footage or commentaries from cast and crew.
