Dean Hall wants to see a better publishing model emerge

The creator of the popular DayZ title says that he might be interested in working on a Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version of the title in the future but only if both Sony and Microsoft offer support for better publishing models.

Dean Hall is quoted by Game Reactor as saying that, "We’d certainly consider release on any feasible platform with a realistic publishing model. It seems like currently both of the next-gen consoles should provide an environment we can develop inside."

The developer says that next gen consoles still need to prove that they can rival the kind of gaming experience currently offered on the PC and that they have a lot of potential that needs to be further explored.

It seems that Dean Hall is more interested in seeing how Sony and Microsoft can support developer focused business models that offer game makers the freedom to deliver constant updates for their titles and to communicate continuously with their fans.

He adds, "An important part of that, from my perspective, is encouraging and supporting third-party creative development to bring the ‘edginess’ of PC creative development into the console. I think if the role of Kinect/voice expands to where it is desired it could do some awesome things. I just think it’s too early to say at this point."

It will be interesting to see whether Day Z gets a release on the PlayStation 4 or the Xbox One and how the core experience of the game will change on the Sony and the Microsoft platforms.

DayZ is one of a recent crop of games that have managed to achieve rival success via the Steam Early Access service, experiences that gamers are willing to play and pay for even if they are still in development and might offer incomplete mechanics and a lot of bugs.
