Electronic Arts has confirmed that the new Xbox One and PlayStation 4 next-generation consoles are at least one generation ahead of high-end PCs, due to their special hardware and services.

After Sony showcased the PlayStation 4 in February, Microsoft finally presented the Xbox One to the world earlier this week.

While concrete technical specifications aren't known about the two next-generation consoles, Electronic Arts' Chief Technical Officer, Rajat Taneja, has confirmed that both devices are a generation ahead of the most powerful PC currently available on the market.

"These architectures are a generation ahead of the highest end PC on the market and their unique design of the hardware, the underlying operating system and the live service layer create one of the most compelling platforms to reimagine game mechanics," he wrote on LinkedIn.

"Our benchmarks on just the video and audio performance are 8-10 times superior to the current gen. The compute capabilities of these platforms and the data transfer speeds we can now bank on, essentially removes any notion of rationing of systems resources for our game engines."

What's more, Taneja also highlighted that the online features of the next-gen consoles will allow developers and publishers like EA to create dynamic worlds that change depending on the actions of the players.

"These next-gen platforms create dynamic, living worlds. Your game could change overnight depending on actions by other gamers around the globe. Your player stats and information can be updated in real time with real-world player stats and injury reports. These consoles are also inherently more social – something that didn’t matter much when the last consoles came out eight years ago."

Electronic Arts is a big supporter of both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, although it's confirmed that FIFA 14 on the Microsoft console will have exclusive FIFA Ultimate Team 14 content.
