Microsoft has revealed a few more technical details about its upcoming Xbox One next-gen console, confirming that the device only supports Direct3D, and not any other technologies like OpenGL or Mantle.

The Xbox One is envisioned by Microsoft as a powerful and modern console that borrows from the PC in terms of architecture, but enriches it with all sorts of proprietary tech.

In a lengthy blog post on the official website, Microsoft has now confirmed that recent graphics APIs like OpenGL or AMD's new Mantle one, won't be supported by the Xbox One.

Instead, the next-gen console sticks to Direct3D.

"We are very excited that with the launch of Xbox One, we can now bring the latest generation of Direct3D 11 to console. The Xbox One graphics API is "Direct3D 11.x" and the Xbox One hardware provides a superset of Direct3D 11.2 functionality. Other graphics APIs such as OpenGL and AMD's Mantle are not available on Xbox One," the company said.
