The team might deliver an update that would enable the capability

Albert Penello, the leading director of product management at Microsoft, says that the coming Xbox One home console will not be able to play music from a USB stick at launch, although users will be able to get tracks from CDs and from streaming services.

The executive confirmed the information via Twitter after a potential buyer asked him about music playback.

The oversight is a little weird considering the fact that since the Xbox One was first revealed, Microsoft has insisted on its capabilities as a multimedia hub that can be used by the whole family.

Penello suggested that an update for the home console might be offered to enable it to play music from USBs.

The Xbox One will be launched on Friday on 13 core markets and the rest of the world will have to wait until early 2014 to get access to it.
