Microsoft announces that it is planning to launch a new required system update for the Xbox One later during the day, which will roll out in all territories where the new home console is currently available.

Larry Hryb, aka Major Nelson, says the rollout will be a little different from the process gamers know from the Xbox 360.

The official announcement says that the Xbox One system update will introduce the following changes:

Addresses SmartGlass issues for some users when coming in and out of connected standby Addresses multiplayer issues for some users when re-joining games Addresses issues with inconsistent notifications for some users Addresses dashboard performance for some users Offers improvements for Xbox One’s TV, system update, and content update services for scaling over time Updated wireless networking driver to improve connectivity issues for some users

Those who use the Instant On feature on the Xbox One will get the update when the console is turned off and the new firmware will then be installed in a process that takes 2 to 5 minutes.

Those who do not use the feature will be asked to download the system update at the latest on December 12 at 4 PM Pacific Time.

Major Nelson says that more updates are planned for the coming year.
