Microsoft has confirmed that its Xbox One next-gen console supports both 4K output and 3D, allowing it to display all sorts of impressive images, videos, and even possible games.

The big new trend in the TV industry is 4K resolution, otherwise known as 4K Ultra HD, which is a new resolution standard that's more or less four times the Full HD standard (3840x2160 as opposed to 1920x1080).

Sony has already confirmed that its PlayStation 4 next-gen console can display 4K videos and now Microsoft's Larry Hryb has revealed to fans in an open chat that the new Xbox One can also display both 4K and 3D.

As of yet, it's unclear if the new console from Microsoft can display just 4K images and videos, like the PS4, or if it can even support 4K games, although it's unlikely that such titles will be made in the next few years.
