The team at Microsoft in charge of the Xbox One home console announces that the hardware platform is at the moment approaching the 10 million units mark when it comes to the number of devices that have been delivered to retailers.

The information comes from the official Xbox Wire and the company is now willing to offer clear details on how many of the units have actually been delivered to paying customers.

Microsoft claims that the sales generated by the Xbox One for the week that followed November 2 were triple when compared to those of the previous seven-day period in the United States, according to internal estimates that have not been yet confirmed by any other tracking company.

The statement says that "The new Xbox One bundles, which feature some of this holiday’s most anticipated games including Assassin’s Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, and Sunset Overdrive, hit store shelves with a limited time offer of $50 off any Xbox One of your choice. Starting as low as $349 in the US, the Xbox One is more affordable than ever this holiday season."

The price cut is temporary and will be eliminated on January 3 of 2015 and Microsoft has made it clear that it has no plans to make it permanent.

Yusuf Mehdi, the leader of the Xbox One team, also thanks gamers for their support and promises more big news and launches in the coming months.

The PlayStation 4 is still ahead when it comes to sales

While the Xbox One is approaching 10 million units shipped to retailers, Sony has announced that it has managed to actually sell more than 13.5 million PlayStation 4 home consoles all over the world, despite the fact that it has not implemented a price cut.

Both companies are claiming that their device offers the best value for this holiday shopping season, and probably more bundles will be announced soon, packing some of the biggest titles of the year so far.

Microsoft is at the moment focused on introducing monthly firmware updates for its platform and the big launch coming in 2015 is Halo 5: Guardians, which is set to get a multiplayer-focused beta on December 29 and is designed to upgrade the core mechanics.

The Nintendo-made Wii U is at the moment lagging behind in sales, but the launch of Super Smash Bros. in late November might change the situation before Christmas.
