Gamers will also be unable to use the shared library

Microsoft has surprised the gaming world by announcing that it is eliminating all Digital Rights Management elements for the Xbox One home console after listening to feedback from gamers.

The company now says that, in order to enable the big reversal of policy, all those who buy an Xbox One will have to apply a specially designed day one patch, which will be offered on launch.

It seems that without it, gamers will need to abide by the previously announced restrictions linked to game trading, lending and would have to connect to the Internet every 24 hours.

Elimination of all DRM comes with a price and Marc Whitten, a vice president in charge of Xbox Live, tells Kotaku that players will no longer be able to use the shared library on launch.

He says, "One of the things we were very exicted about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course your physical games won’t show up that way. The games you bought digitally will."
