14 DAY TRIAL // The team in charge of the Reddit app on the Xbox One announces that version 1.1 is now live on the Microsoft home console after a slight delay and that all those who use it will be able to enjoy a number of new features as soon as the update is downloaded.
The official announcement on Reddit explains that feedback from users was used to improve the overall experience.
The team explains, “You can now select links inside of comments and bring up the content inside of the app the same way posts are viewed. Speaking of comments, you can now expand and collapse comment threads with ease.”
There are also options to subscribe, unsubscribe, browse subreddits and use search to get access to new content for sub-forums.
All videos and other content can be also viewed in full screen using the Reddit app on the Xbox One.
Apps are also eliminated with a new ReddX Plus option, which will cost 2.99 dollars (2.39 Euro).
The announcement adds, “We would also like to give a warm welcome to the redditors from the UK, Ireland, Czech Republic, Isreal, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Hungary, Slovakia, Greece, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, and India!”
They will be able to try out the ReddX app for free for one week and without any ads.
The Xbox One and PS3 need solid social apps
Both current-gen home consoles are at the moment trying to secure deals for important apps which can be used to attract more users in the long term.
Sony surprised a lot of people when it revealed that it was working with Spotify to deliver a new music streaming application for the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and some mobile phones.
Microsoft will not get access to a similar app in the near future.
Reddit has become a very popular destination for gamers in the past few years and a solid app is required to make sure that gamers do not abandon the home console in favor of their computer or their phone when they want to read comments or to interact with friends.
Currently, the Xbox One is trailing behind in terms of sales when compared to the PlayStation 4.
