A brand new report has appeared online concerning a potential increase of the Xbox One's RAM from 8GB to 12GB, denying that such a move is being pondered by Microsoft, which is quite happy with the current amount of memory in its next-gen console.

On paper, the Xbox One loses to the PlayStation 4 in terms of hardware specifications, as while both consoles have 8GB of RAM, the Xbox One has slower DDR3 memory while the PS4 has faster GDDR5 tech.

What's more, while the PS4 reserves 1GB of that RAM for its operating system, the Xbox One requires 3GB, leaving only 5GB of RAM for developers.

Given this big disadvantage, a rumor popped up about a possible increase of total RAM size to 12GB.

This isn't true, at least according to a new report from The Examiner, as Microsoft is keen on keeping costs down and shipping the console with 8GB of RAM, despite leaving game developers at a disadvantage.
