14 DAY TRIAL // Platform holder Microsoft is ready to offer full details on the changes that will be introduced to the software side of the Xbox One via a new firmware update which will be launched in November, designed to focus on more personalization and better television integration, with all the new features now being tested by those who are part of the preview program.
The company is listening to the community and is finally offering an option to use a customized background, including the choice between a set color or an Achievement that the gamer likes, with more choices set to be offered in the future.
The Gamer Profile of the Xbox One is also being tweaked, with both location and biography now valid options.
The Smart Glass integration is also being extended and Microsoft states in the official announcement that “You can now select a set of showcase items that are displayed when other gamers look at your profile on an Xbox One console. You can use Xbox One SmartGlass or Xbox One console to add or remove up to six game clips or achievements that will be displayed in a carousel format.”
Using the Share button for a game clip also now includes a Twitter-based option.
In the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada, gamers will also get a new tab in the One Guide which lists the most watched TV shows in order to give them more choices, and there are more options to see social messages and trending content.
Xbox One also gets changes for IE, the store and more
Microsoft is also improving the store for the Xbox One, in order to make browsing and purchasing easier for all the content, and gamers can now also browse the Free Games with Gold content on the Smart Glass.
Internet Explorer is the default browser for the home console, and in the November firmware update gamers will get a Snap option for it.
Microsoft adds, “Internet Explorer will show a number when something is newly-added to featured sites. Newly-added sites will also display a badge until you launch them or seven days have passed since the site was added to the Featured list.”
For those who have access to the Preview Program for the firmware, the update is also introducing a new My Stats tab, which allows gamers to see the points they get if they contribute to the development of the platform, and a leaderboard is also offered.
