Phil Spencer, the new boss of Microsoft's Xbox division has shared his thoughts on gaming overall and he believes that, due to the Xbox One's positioning in the living room, it needs to represent the best place for gaming overall, without trying to carve into mobile or PC, for example.

Gaming nowadays can be done on a wide range of devices, from smartphones, to consoles or the PC, each with different types of experiences that more or less work across most platforms.

The new leader of the Xbox division at Microsoft, Phil Spencer, has already emphasized that gaming will be the focus for the Xbox One moving forward, although his team will still try to bring more entertainment options and features to the device.

While talking on the Major Nelson podcast, Spencer has emphasized that gaming on a television needs to attract those who are enjoying games on smaller displays, from smartphones and tablets to the PC.

"We have a unique place in the home, on the biggest screen in the home, highest fidelity, probably the best sound system, multiple ways of input, listen to voice, holding a controller, really immersive games, and let’s stay on that," he said, via DualShockers.

Spencer and his team now want to bring in more types of gamers to the Xbox One in the living room so that they realize just how great of an experience it can be, as opposed to other platforms.

"That’s our differentiator in the console space, and make sure that as people are finding games, whether it’s Candy Crush, or Clash of Clans, or League of Legends, let’s make sure when they land in the console space that it feels like it’s additive to the experience. That it’s "this is the place where I go to play this kind of games."

In Spencer's view, different platforms shouldn't automatically eliminate one another, as people can easily play on various devices from time to time. He exemplified this with the idea of TV and movie theaters, as he can enjoy watching films in both these environments and they don't clash with each other, as they're complementary.

The new Xbox boss has already pledged to start listening to feedback from Xbox fans alongside his team, and he is working hard on the E3 2014 presentation that will take place in June and once again focus on the big games and experiences coming to the Xbox One in the future.
