The device can co-exist with both pieces of hardware

Marc Whitten, the chief product officer working on the Xbox One at Microsoft, says that the new home console is not threatened in any way by the launch of the Steam machines that are coming this year or by the virtual reality abilities of the Oculus Rift headset.

He is quoted by Engadget as saying that “I don't want to work on it; I don't want to feel like I have to know how it works. I would like to be blowing things up now, or watching a thing now. That's the fundamental thing that you want to do.”

The executive believes that gamers are able to choose between the various hardware coming to the market and that the innovation improves the general health of the entire industry.

The Oculus Rift might at one point even be adapted to work with the Xbox One.

Meanwhile, Valve is actively positioning the Steam machines its partners are creating as competition for the Microsoft home console.
