The current generation of consoles will be affected by mobile competition

Tameem Antoniades, a co-founder of developer Ninja Theory, says that the Xbox One launch is a sign of the wrong direction in which the console market is heading.

The executive claims that the new focus on TV programs and other media is a betrayal of the original mission of the devices, that of bringing impressive video games to the masses.

He tells GamesInsustry.biz that, “it’s completely the wrong direction. It does seem like, despite the best intentions of Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, they’ve still got too much momentum to steer.”

Antoniades says that the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4 and the Wii U will face tough competition from mobile devices and from the new generation of Steam hardware.

Ninja Theory has worked on Heavenly Sword, Enslaved and the new DmC: Devil May Cry.

The company is currently working on a new project, but it has offered no details on it.
