The teams at 343 Industries and publisher Microsoft are already running a high profile Hunt the Truth promotional effort for the long-awaited Halo 5: Guardians, and it seems that the two companies are preparing for a content designed to increase the hype around the title.

The information comes from a new Xbox One centric advertisement that is designed to show off the capabilities of the home console and contains some easy-to-notice glitches that are clearly designed to be explored by fans.

A site has been uncovered, which can be accessed only from a smartphone and at the moment displays a countdown that will end in about five days, although it's unclear what it points to.

Further digging into the site and the video seems to suggest that Halo 5: Guardians will be used for a new competition that is called Hunt the Signal.

It appears that only those who are residents of the United States and the United Kingdom will be able to take part and that they will need to organize into four-man teams, which will then take part in some sort of treasure hunt.

The text states that the winners will "be invited to provide a photograph of themselves which will be used to create characters in their likeness to appear in the game Halo 5."

Those who want to participate will have to own smartphones that feature video playback capabilities, a gyroscope, a compass, geolocation and more, which suggests that the content is pretty complex.

Microsoft has not yet offered any official information on Hunt the Signal for Halo 5: Guardians.

The Xbox One title is the biggest of the fall for the company

Hunt the Signal might be a sign that Microsoft is planning a major set of promotional efforts aimed at both long-term fans and newcomers to make sure that Halo 5 is a known quantity by the time it is launched.

The new Master Chief adventure is set to arrive on October 27 and will only be offered on the Xbox One.

The single-player story will be focused on two takes on the current situation of the universe and the rivalry between Master Chief and Agent Locke.

343 Industries is also planning to introduce major changes to the multiplayer mode, with a lot of new powers for the Spartan characters.
