Forza Motorsport 5 box mentions one-time-use activation code

A brand new and quite massive report has appeared online claiming that the infamous Xbox One DRM (Digital Rights Management) system might be implemented for all Chinese consoles, at least judging from the back of the Forza Motorsport 5 box, which claims that a one-time activation code for the game is included besides the disc inside the case.

The Xbox One was revealed to the world back in May of last year and received even more details in June, at E3 2014. While the console was pretty decent in terms of power, its DRM policy eliminated the used game phenomenon, meaning all titles had a one-time activation code that needed to be introduced into the Xbox Live online service.

The DRM system might make a comeback in China

The mechanic, similar to the current state of PC gaming, caused a huge backlash and prompted Microsoft to scrap it so that things returned to how they were on the Xbox 360.

Now, it seems that the DRM system could re-emerge, this time in China, according to a new report that surfaced on forum A9VG.

More specifically, via NeoGAF, it seems that on the backside of the Forza Motorsport 5 cover that's going on sale in China soon enough there's a mention of a one-time-use activation code inside the game's box, besides its actual disc.

No other details are offered, but there's a pretty big chance that the anti-piracy system is going to be implemented in China for the Xbox One and the games sold there, as the large Asian country is notorious for piracy and copyright infringement.

Xbox One in China might have different features

Because of the long time ban of video game consoles in China, Microsoft had to partner with a local company, BesTV, as well as to market the device as an entertainment platform that could be used to enjoy TV content, streaming services, as well as play video games.

As of yet, however, neither Microsoft nor BesTV has said anything about special anti-piracy measures or DRM systems that will be added to the Xbox One ahead of its release in China.

Expect to see some form of clarification or at least a statement as we get closer to the debut of the console in the Asian territory.

It's unclear if the PS4, which is also going to launch in China soon enough, will use a similar system to prevent piracy in the huge Asian country.
