Some additional details regarding the upcoming Xbox One August 2014 firmware update have surfaced online, in the form of a preview tour of the new features that the patch will introduce.

YouTube user Arekkz Gaming has posted a video on his channel detailing some of the new stuff that Xbox One owners will get when the update goes live.

The upcoming update focuses mostly on adding some new social interactions and functions, but it also delivers a couple of sought-after features to Microsoft's latest console.

When accessing the People app, you will notice that the Activity Feed has been changed into a single, long column, offering access to a wider volume of Activities, including achievement unlocks, gameplay videos, and even status updates from friends.

Gamers will also be able to Like and Share any activity that they are currently viewing straight from the Activity Feed, enhancing the Xbox One's array of social interaction.

The video shows that shared activities can now be sent to specific individuals by using the Message system or directly sharing to your friends' Activity Feed, and you can also comment on an Activity in order to open up conversation threads among you and your friends.

The update also enables video playback right from the Activity Feed, and the Upload app now also makes use of the Like and Share functions mentioned above, with users being able to like and share specific clips that they find therein. The update also adds a Trending window, showing popular content that is related to your most frequently searched items.

Furthermore, the update adds the possibility to make purchases through your mobile devices, and Xbox.com and the SmartGlass app can now both be used to purchase content for your games remotely and to start the appropriate downloads at a distance.

A request that has been highly requested, the addition of a low-battery warning also makes its way into the August firmware update, and thus you'll no longer find yourself caught by surprise when you controller suddenly dies in the midst of a crucial battle, without warning.

You also have the option to disable notifications while watching video content, in order not to be distracted or interrupted while enjoying something.

Lastly, the August update also adds 3D Blu-Ray playback, for those still interested in making use of the feature.

Microsoft has not provided a clear release date for the Xbox One update due this August, but we'll come back with the news as soon as the information becomes available.
