The secondary market might become less attractive for players

Microsoft says that videogame publishers will be able to create and implement their own policies linked to used game sales on the upcoming Xbox One home console.

A new Wire article from the company states, "We designed Xbox One so game publishers can enable you to trade in your games at participating retailers. Microsoft does not charge a platform fee to retailers, publishers, or consumers for enabling transfer of these games."

It's unclear who the participating retailers are at this point, but it seems almost certain that Gamestop will be one of them.

The system will probably seek to reward developers for used games sales, which might lead to higher overall prices and less sold copies on the secondary market.

Xbox One will launch in late 2013 and, until then, Microsoft will offer more details on policies.
