The next-gen console's operating system will occupy significant HDD space

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will be launched with a 500GB hard drive and that, while owners won't be able to replace the hard disk, they can attach external storage units via the console's USB 3.0 port.

The Xbox One was revealed to the world yesterday and Microsoft confirmed that all units would ship at the end of the year with a 500GB HDD.

According to a Microsoft representative who talked with Engadget, the disk can't be swapped out by owners, unlike the current Xbox 360, but users can add external storage units, like memory sticks or external drives, via the USB 3.0 port of the next-gen console.

What's more, according to Microsoft's official info, a "significant" portion of the hard drive will be occupied by the console's operating system, so new owners shouldn't count on having all that storages available when they install games on the Xbox One.
