Microsoft has made it clear that it has no plans to eliminate Microsoft Points and that they will continue to be used by those who want to purchase content from the Xbox Live service in the coming years.

The company has also made it clear that Windows 8, the Operating System that will be launched this fall, will use cash as the default currency.

A spokesperson from the company stated, “Current Xbox Live customers may also make a purchase using points.”

He added, “Microsoft Points continue to be the currency for purchasing content for the Xbox 360 console.”

A rumor suggested that Microsoft was dropping the Points system before the end of 2012, citing information from inside sources.

The Microsoft Points system was introduced during 2005 when the Xbox 360 was launched and it has also been used for the Windows Phone 7, the Games for Windows Live service and the Zune Marketplace.
