PlayStation users get alpha and beta access, on top of some exclusive content

Former Halo developer Bungie's upcoming online first-person shooter, Destiny, is one of the hottest games of the year, and the studio seems to have jumped in bed with Sony, judging by the game's marketing and all the PlayStation exclusives.

There is heavy PlayStation branding in the game's marketing efforts, and the devs themselves seem to favor Sony's platforms, with exclusive PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 content that will only become available on Microsoft's consoles sometime during Q3 2015, and with the game's alpha and beta tests only being available to PlayStation owners.

Xbox fans seem to be missing out on pretty much, as the forthcoming beta test has not yet been officially confirmed to land on either the Xbox 360 or Xbox One, and considering that the studio has stated that they will continue to focus on Xbox platforms when they split, and that the Halo franchise is one of the biggest movers of Xbox consoles, people might think that the Xbox team is pretty mad at what's going on.

As it turns out, the truth could not be more further than that, as the head of Microsoft's Xbox divison, Phil Spencer, says that he is not at all upset, and that he just wants them to make a great product that gamers can enjoy.

"No, not at all. Just want them to build a great game," Spencer tweets in response to a fan asking him whether he is mad at Bungie.

The truth of the matter is that Spencer would have no reason to be mad, as independent developers are free to make their own choices, and Destiny is also coming to both the Xbox One and Xbox 360 computer entertainment systems.

The exclusive DLC and alpha and beta access might be a nice cherry on top of the massive cake that is Destiny, but there's enough sugar in it for the entire gaming community to get plenty of diabetes without the extras.

The Xbox consoles get a lot of timed exclusive and proper exclusive content on plenty of other games, and Destiny is just one of the big games of this year.

The most important thing, that Phil Spencer seems to understand very well, is that everyone gets to play the game. That is, apart from the poor souls who wanted the game to come to the Nintendo Wii U or to PCs.

Destiny comes out on September 9, for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox 360 platforms.
