The next-gen Xbox might be delayed because of Sony's Blu-ray exclusivity

The next-generation Xbox 720 might not be released this year, as apparently an issue with the licensing of the console's Blu-ray drive might push it back to 2014, at least according to a new report.

Microsoft is set to present its next Xbox console to the world on May 21 at a special event at its Redmond, Washington headquarters, and another presentation will be held on June 10, right before E3 2013.

Sadly, it seems that the console may not be released in 2013, as a new report that surfaced on Italian website MondoXbox claims that Blu-ray licensing problems are preventing Microsoft from actually putting the next-gen device on sale.

Apparently, Sony made a certain deal in terms of consoles when the Blu-ray standard was devised and has a form of exclusivity, which apparently Microsoft's can't break with its new device.

As of yet, it's unclear if the Xbox 720 will actually have a Blu-ray drive, as different reports have clashed on the issue, some saying that the console supports the feature, while others claim that Microsoft has a proprietary format, like Nintendo with the Wii U.
