The next-gen Xbox allows for different activities when not connected to the Internet

The next generation Xbox console, oft-rumored under the Durango codename or the Xbox 720 nickname, will allow owners to engage in a few activities even if their Internet connection is down.

For example, they can play single-player games, watch a Blu-ray disc, or view live TV, at least according to a Microsoft internal email.

Microsoft is getting ready to debut the Xbox 720 later this month on May 21 but for some time now rumors about the console have been flying around the web, with the most infamous being that it requires a constant Internet connection to even work.

Now, it seems that an internal email from Microsoft published by ArsTechnica sheds some light on the matter.

Microsoft believes "there are a number of scenarios that our users expect to work without an Internet connection, and those should 'just work' regardless of their current connection status. Those include, but are not limited to: playing a Blu-ray disc, watching live TV, and yes playing a single player game."

This new semi-official statement should definitely calm down some console gamers and will certainly be detailed on May 21, when the Xbox 720 is presented to the world.
