Xbox 360 to Sponsor National Family Fitness Day

- Microsoft gets ahead of Nintendo and becomes the fitness console

By: Calin Ciabai, Games Editor

If you were thinking that the only console
which can be associated with the idea of fitness is Nintendo's Wii, you were wrong: Microsoft has just got the lead[SDMARK=1] and jumped in with the Xbox 360 to sponsor the first ever National Family Fitness Day which will take place on the 12th of May this year. However, since an Xbox Fit is not available, the participants will have to accept DanceDanceRevolution Universe 2 as a replacement - and they will most likely accept it happily, since supermodel Christie Brinkley will join up with Dr. Carlon Colker to commence the activities.

This event - the first of its kind - is expected to bring together at least 500 participants to burn 18,000 calories while having fun thanks to the DanceDanceRevolution title for the Xbox 360 console. Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Seattle will be the cities where the event will take place, with Boys & Girls Clubs hosting the party and hoping to signal the start of a yearly, successful event.

National Family Fitness Day is all about keeping kids and their parents active and healthy," said Jeff Bell, corporate vice president of Global Marketing for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft. "Playing ‘DanceDanceRevolution’ on Xbox 360 is one of many ways families can get up off the couch and have fun together."

So, even though DanceDanceRevolution is not able to tell you if you are overweight or not (but, as I was saying in a previous article – the mirror could tell you for sure), it still is a fun way to burn calories and, even more, thanks to Carlon Colker, it will become the perfect soundtrack provider for a series of health-related advice. So, if you want to know how you should shop healthy and cook at home, check out your local community centers and keep a structured bedtime schedule, grab your snickers and head to the Boys & Girls Clubs to find out. Xbox 360s will take care of the rest.
