Gamers will have more space for games and entertainment content

The team in charge with the development of the Xbox 360 home console announces that it plans to launch a new hard drive option for the device, which will include 500 GB of storage capacity, in order to make sure that all users have enough space to store their content.

At the moment, pre-orders are not active for the accessory, but the price seems to be set at 109.99 dollars or Euro, which is quite a lot given the size of the hard drive.

Since the home console was first introduced, Microsoft has constantly increased the storage capacity as more entertainment content has become available for it.

An official page for the new accessory states, “With the larger Xbox 360 500GB Media Hard Drive, you’ll get more space for games, HD movies, and demos. Even install game discs to your hard drive.”

Microsoft has said that it still has long-term plans to continue support for the Xbox 360 and to keep it relevant even as more and more gamers upgrade to the newer and the more powerful Xbox One.

The older device can still perform well on secondary markets, where price is very important and Microsoft might soon introduce another price drop in order to make it more attractive.

The big problem is that big game publishers might soon no longer launch Xbox 360 versions of their most high-profile titles, with Ubisoft recently saying that in 2015 it might not even create last-gen versions for its big Assassin’s Creed releases.

Microsoft claims that some of its studios are working on specific content for the older platform and that the Rise of the Tomb Raider exclusivity deal that was recently announced includes the device.

The Xbox 360 should be a low priority for Microsoft at the moment, because its newer Xbox One has so far failed to perform as well as the company was expecting.

The rival PlayStation 4 from Sony has managed to go over the 10 million units sold worldwide milestone and shows no signs of slowing down.

To boost its own platform, Microsoft has announced a number of bundles, including two pretty spectacular ones that feature Madden NFL 15 and Sunset Overdrive, which has a special white version of the device.

At the same time, rumors are suggesting that the company is contemplating a second price cut that might be introduced before the all-important Christmas shopping season.
