Microsoft has just deployed a brand new system update for its Xbox 360 console, taking its dashboard to version 2.0.14717.0, which aims at fixing some of the color problems that were encountered by owners of the device when playing back videos.

After Microsoft released its traditional system software update last December, users encountered quite a few problems, among which an issue with the colors that were displayed by the console when it played back video content through applications like YouTube.

As you can imagine, this put a damper on Microsoft’s attempts at making the Xbox 360 the full-fledged entertainment center it had hoped for.

Now, the company has launched a new software update that will, hopefully, solve this color issue and deliver an enhanced experience.

“This update will increase performance and is part of our continued effort to provide the best possible Xbox Live experience,” Microsoft Xbox Live Community Manager Larry Hryb said.

“In this update, we are providing a fix to a color issue that some were experiencing, and it will be immediately notable in the dashboard. The fix is also being applied by partners to their apps on Xbox Live, which we expect to roll out over the coming months.”

This is a mandatory update, which means that you need to download and install it if you want to access the Xbox Live online service.

You can download the Xbox 360 dashboard update 2.0.14717.0 right now from Softpedia. It can be applied to your device either by putting it on an USB drive or on a CD or DVD.

Microsoft also warns that if you were already signed into Xbox Live, you’ll be taken offline until you install the new software via its own online service. After that, things should get back to normal.

As the company highlighted above, expect to see updates arriving for Xbox 360 apps like YouTube, Hulu Plus or Netflix.

Microsoft will continue to release even more TV entertainment applications in the near future, as it’s continuously striking partnerships around the world to deliver fresh content to its Xbox 360 users.
