Xbox 360 Set to Overtake Wii in Lifetime Sales in the UK

The Xbox 360 is close to overtaking the Nintendo Wii in terms of lifetime sales figures in the UK, at least according to new data that puts the original Wii barely ahead of Microsoft's own console.

While Nintendo's original Wii grossly outsold its competitors, the PS3 and Xbox 360, in the first few years of this generation, things haven't been so good for the Japanese company in the last couple of years, while both the PS3 and the Xbox 360 in particular have sold much better.

Now, according to new data from GFK Chart-Track, via CVG, the difference in lifetime sales figures between the Wii and Xbox 360 is just 200,000 units, in the UK.

The same data shows that in 2012, the Xbox 360 sold four times as many units than the Wii, so you can bet that during 2013 Microsoft's console will take the crown from Nintendo.

Judging by the most recent official figures, Nintendo has sold 97 million Wii units worldwide, while both Sony and Microsoft managed to sell around 70 million consoles each.
