The Xbox 360 version of the indie hit Minecraft, created by Mojang, has managed to take over the number one position in the United Kingdom chart for the week that ended on July 27, a big performance for a game that was initially only destined to launch on the PC.

In an interesting twist for Microsoft, the performance comes in the same week that the company revealed that it planned to deliver self-publishing and development capabilities on the coming Xbox One.

More information about the way indie teams will be able to use the home console will be offered at Gamescom and Markus Persson, the creator of Minecraft, says that the idea is a sound one.

Pikmin 3, the new release from Nintendo for the Wii U home console, is in second place during its first actual week on sale in the United Kingdom, according to data offered by UKIE.

The last position on the podium belongs to The Last of Us, the post-apocalyptic shooter from Naughty Dog and Sony, which has finally dropped from the number one spot after six weeks.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf, another Nintendo game, remains unmoved in fourth place and the company managed to score a triple in the United Kingdom by also placing Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. in fifth place.

FIFA 13 is staging a comeback in sixth place, coming from ninth, and Far Cry 3, a Ubisoft title, drops down one position to reach seventh.

The Legendary edition of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, which includes all the released expansions for the open world game, is in eight, followed by Tomb Raider.

The United Kingdom top ten is closed down by LEGO Batman 2: DC Super Heroes.

The chart will see a major shake-up in the middle of August, when a number of big titles are set to be launched.
