It seems that a hacking project that aims to create an emulator for the PC that can run Xbox 360 games is making good progress and might be released for the public in the coming months under the Xenia name.

A Reddit thread quotes one of the hackers working on it as saying that, “Status of the project is that it's coming along well, after a long period of inactivity. Many games get to title screens though don't draw much. I'm really hoping AMD gets its shit together and releases Mantle soon, as that will make emulating the GPU related things significantly easier.”

It seems that the main motivation behind the Xbox 360 emulation project is the fact that Microsoft does not currently plan to offer any way to play titles for the device on the new Xbox One.

The company has not offered any sort of official comment on the emulator or the legal hurdles it might face when it is ready.
