Microsoft confirmed that the first two titles announced for the Xbox 360 Games with Gold, Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 3, will eventually be released during the actual promotion, although for now Gold users are only able to get Defense Grid: The Awakening for free.

Microsoft delighted quite a few E3 2013 attendants when it confirmed that it was introducing a special promotion called Games with Gold, which consists of free titles for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, similar to Sony's PlayStation Plus.

The company also confirmed that two great games will headline the initiative, in the form of Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2.

Much to the surprise of many Xbox 360 owners, the promotion didn't debut with the two titles, as Microsoft opted to kick it off with Defense Grid: The Awakening.

According to Microsoft's Larry Hryb, who talked with console owners on Twitter, there was a misunderstanding, as the company revealed that Halo 3 and Assassin's Creed 2 will launch for free eventually, not at the beginning of the promotion.

As of yet, it's unclear when the titles will be released.
