Xbox 360 Emulation for Xbox One Is Being Planned by Microsoft
The Xbox One might eventually be able to play Xbox 360 titles
Microsoft has confirmed that it's planning to add Xbox 360 emulation to the Xbox One console but, so far, the whole thing is proving quite hard so nothing concrete is going to be announced just yet.The Xbox One was revealed and launched last year and, while plenty of gamers wanted to be able to play their Xbox 360 titles on the new console, either by inserting their discs or just accessing the digital ones, Microsoft denied them such a thing.
At the time, the former Xbox boss, Don Mattrick, simply told users that, if they wanted to play Xbox 360 games, they should just get an Xbox 360 console.
Now, at the company's recent BUILD conference, via Kotaku, it seems that the tide is changing.
According to Xbox partner development lead Frank Savage, the company is thinking about Xbox 360 emulation on Xbox One.
"There are [plans], but we’re not done thinking them through yet, unfortunately. It turns out to be hard to emulate the PowerPC stuff on the X86 stuff. So there’s nothing to announce, but I would love to see it myself," he said.
Meanwhile, Sony is bringing PS3 games to PS4 via the PlayStation Now cloud streaming service and there are rumors about hardware emulation for older consoles like PS2 or PS1.
