From Sanyo

Sanyo keeps pounding the video market with surprising products and judging from their latest products they might have what it takes to go against the likes of Canon, Sony and JVC.

Their latest contraption is the DMX-HD1000, touted as the world's smallest and lightest full HD camcorder, that's 1920 by 1080 pixels (12Mbps). The new model is an upgrade of the VPC-HD2, which recorded at 30 fps and 1280 x 720 pixels.

The new HD1000 has also adopted the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 compression format for recording video, enabling up to approximately 43 minutes of Full HD (1920 x 1080) recording at 30 frames per second onto a 4GB SDHC Memory Card.

Sanyo informs that in order to process the impressive amount of data captured at 1920x1080, it has developed a new engine, which utilizes Sanyo's proprietary codec enabling Full HD compatibility with the H.264 format.

Aside from the full HD mode, the new model can also record HD-HR, 1280 x 720 (60 fps/12Mbps), HD-SHQ, 1280 x 720 (30 fps/9Mbps), TV-HR, 640 x 480 (60 fps/6Mbps), TV-SHQ, 640 x 480 (30 fps/3Mbps) and Web-SHQ, 320 x 240 (30 fps).

The two high definition models have a fundamental difference, which lies in the sensor, While the previous VPC-HD2 has a CCD with 7.3 megapixels, the new DMX-HD1000 boasts a CMOS with only 4 megapixels.

Lens wise, this Xacti gives you a focal range of 49.7 to 497 mm (35 mm equiv.) that translates into 10x optical zoom. In terms of maximum aperture, the camcorder goes up to f/1.8 at the wide end and f/2.5 at the tele end. The lens itself consists of 8 groups with 11 elements, including 3 aspherical pieces.

The camera's design has also been improved, the goal being to put less strain on the muscles. The research tested 7 different camera models ranging from lens and grip angles of 0? to 135?, created for the purposes of testing. The test was based on analyses measuring the myogenic potential of 6 places on the right arm where the muscles are used during movie filming, as well as surveys asking for individual assessments and evaluations.

The Xacti DMX-HD1000 will be available in mid-September for an as-yet unspecified price.
