The X.Org Foundation has announced that a new version of their XOrg Server is now available for download, 1.16.0.

The final version of the 1.16.x branch of the XOrg Server has arrived, and as usual, it comes with some very important features and other various changes.

“For the first time in several releases, we've added substantial amounts of code to the server, only 2/3 of which was the glamor code base.”

“One omission here was a last-minute bug fix for glamor Render acceleration that manifests as disappearing icons in systray. That's been posted to the mailing list for review and to see if it causes regressions like the last proposed fix for this bug did,” says developer Keith Packard in the mailing list message.

According to the changelog, Glamor has been integrated and provides reasonable performance that avoids software fallbacks, XWayland has been implemented and features an X server integrated into a Wayland window system, the systemd integration has been completed, thousands of compiler warnings have been removed, and Non-PCI device support is finally available.

A complete list of changes and new features for this version can be found in the mailing list. You can download XOrg Server 1.16.0 right now from Softpedia.
