The Elysium MSI uses one of those weird S-Frame cases

You might not believe it, but custom desktop PCs are actually not released all that often. That means that XOTIC PC's launch of the Elysium MSI deserves a bit more attention than the ordinary gaming system “news.”

It might sound strange, but companies like Maingear, CyberPower, Cooler Master and so many others who deal in pre-ordered, full gaming PCs don't launch new models all that frequently.

Instead, most computers you'll find up for order have been around for a few years already, maybe even a decade or more. Their makers are content with upgrading them every time a new CPU, graphics card or memory module debuts.

XOTIC PC decided it was high time it actually did make a new system, so it put together the Elysium MSI.

The Elysium MSI boutique PC

The computer is the result of a new partnership between XOTIC PC and Micro-Star International, which everyone calls MSI for short.

The X99S Motherboard from MSI acts as the foundation for the entire system, even though it's Intel's Core i7-5960X 8-core central processing unit that provides all the power.

For those who want details, the chip can reach 3.5 GHz frequency but works at 3 GHz when it's not pushed too hard, which means it will not activate the overclock most of the time.

The integrated graphics in the CPU can work decently if needed, but this is a gaming system, which means you get an overpowered graphics card too.

Or pair of graphics cards, as it happens: two NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 4GB MSI Twin Frozr V Edition adapters.

Little wonder that the MSI logo is so large and clear on the front of the case. An S-Frame case from In Win, in case you didn't recognize the distinctive shape.

Other specs include 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4 memory, two storage devices (2TB 7200RPM Hard Drive + 240GB Intel 730 Series SSD) and a Corsair 1500W AX1500i Titanium Power Supply.

Availability and pricing

The XOTIC PC Elysium MSI gaming computer, with Windows 8.1 operating system and 1 Year Parts + Lifetime Labor Warranty, should go up for sale soon. Unfortunately, the price is unknown.

And yes, the PC really does have an open-air case (that's the whole point behind the In Win S-Frame), with a side window and no roof. You'll probably see it in Las Vegas between January 6 and 9, during CES 2015 (the annual Consumer Electronics Show).
