Mostly famous for its smartphone products, mobile device manufacturer XOLO has launched a new Android tablet today for the Indian market, AndroidOS.in reports.

It appears that the Indian market is ready to absorb more mid-range offerings like this, so the company has unleashed the XOLO Play Tab 7.0.

The new tablet comes with your usual 7-inch screen and features a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The Play Tab 7.0 is powered by Nvidia’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. 8GB of storage are provided in the package. Users should not confuse this with the more famous XOLO Tegra Note tablet, which packs a Tegra 4 inside.

Business head for XOLO Sunil Raina introduced the device saying that “As XOLO continues to deliver on its promise to bring differentiated technology to discerning consumers, we’re replicating the success we've achieved in the smartphone category now in tablets.”

“XOLO Play Tab 7.0 marks the first tablet in the XOLO Play category of products, powered by Nvidia Tegra. Similar to XOLO Play T1000 smartphone launched in in July, the Tab delivers similar entertainment now on a bigger 7-inch screen.”

The tablet runs Android 4.1 but offers no 3G capabilities or voice-calling feats. Interested customers will be able to grab their XOLO Play Tab from store locations across the country for the price of Rs 12,999 / $213 / €157. The Google Nexus 7 (2012) is also available in the country for Rs 9,999 / $164 / €121 so competition is going to be tough.
