Reference design but high price tag

XFX, one of NVIDIA's graphics board partners that have decided to join AMD, since the launch of the HD 4000-series graphics cards, is expected to officially announce its first HD4870X2 video card. This top-of-the line model has already been listed on the website of an online retailer, which could only confirm that XFX will soon be officially announcing the aforementioned card.

According to the specifications currently available, the XFX-branded HD4870X2 graphics card appears to be delivering the same technical specifications as AMD's reference model, offering a core speed of 750MHz and 2GB of GDDR5 memory, set to work at an impressive 3600MHz. The card comes with support for Microsoft's DirectX 10.1, has dual-DVI connectivity and a 2 x 256-bit memory interface. All those things combined make up for the highest-performance Radeon graphics card currently available on the market.

Additional features include support for OpenGL 2.0 and Shader Model 4.1 and AMD's CrossFireX graphics technology. This will enable users to further boost the performance of their desktop rigs, by adding another HD4870X2 card to their system.

XFX has designed the card to provide its customers with an enthusiast-class graphics product that boasts a dual-GPU setup, enabling a higher level of performance when compared to single-GPU solutions. The dual-GPU configuration requires some extra power, which is delivered through the 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe connectors. Price-wise, you are looking at an XFX-branded card that will cost you €477,61 or approximately US$606. Unfortunately, the card is listed but currently not available.

Despite providing the same technical sheet as most of the other HD4870X2-based graphics cards on the market, the XFX-branded card comes with a rather high price tag. This could suggest some kind of bundle, but that is yet to be confirmed by the graphics card maker.
