Ever since XFX entered the 3d stage we've all been wondering what they were going to come up with next. At least in the last 2 years, the developers from XFX modified every board design as much as they could, in order to obtain maximum performance out of a standard
GPU. First, there's the cooling. Generally, XFX uses modified cooling in order to achieve higher working frequencies than reference boards. And then you get a modified video bios with latencies tighter than the usual, generally resulting in better performance if the modified cooling can cope with the excess of heat.

This time though, it's a different matter. XFX released on the market a product aimed not at the hardcore overclocker but more at the music lover. Maybe that's a little weird, but that's how it works: it is music to you ears. And what a music.

Indeed it's a passively cooled card, but that didn't hold back the minds of the people working at XFX. The card is slightly factory overclocked, working at 570MHz GPU/730MHz x 2 GDDR3 256-bit instead of factory defined values (550/700). Beyond that, you find a fully capable G71 chip with 24 pixel pipelines. You also get 512MB RAM, dual DVI with HDCP capable EEPROM and a TV-out. Even more, bundled with the card, you will find 2 DVI to VGA adapters, a 6 feet long S-Video cable and a copy of Ghost Recon.

Basically, what you get for the $430 you take out of your wallet is a whisper quiet 7950GT, faster than the factory model. Ok, maybe you get 10% more frames out of an x1900 video card but for $40 it's a big price to pay, especially if you like your PC to remain silent. Performance wise, it is every bit equal to the reference card when overclocked at the same clockspeeds. And if you have an entirely passive cooled PC you'll enjoy XFX just as every gamer does.
