The XCOM shooter that's been in development for quite some time at 2K Marin might be renamed into The Bureau, as a new report hints at another change for the mysterious title.

2K decided to revive the XCOM franchise a few years ago when it confirmed that the classic strategy series is being turned into a shooter by 2K Marin. Soon after that, in order to please fans, the publisher also mentioned that Firaxis is making a strategy game, in the form of XCOM: Enemy Unknown, which went on to become extremely popular.

Now, it seems that 2K has decided to abandon the XCOM name for the shooter project and has just registered website domains for something called The Bureau and another thing called whathappenedin62.

The report, coming from Kotaku, says that 2K is now putting a bigger value on the XCOM brand and doesn't want to risk it with the shooter that's still in development after many years since its actual announcement.

As of yet, 2K hasn't commented on this new rumor.
