Starting today, owners of Android-based devices out there can download and install a new highly popular game, namely XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

The title was released on consoles back in 2012 and already landed on iOS devices a year ago. The game has received various prizes and awards and is now up for grabs in the Google Play Store, while expected to arrive in the Amazon store soon.

Coming from 2K Games, Inc., the new title is set to bring the award-winning PC and console game of the year to various Android devices out there, though it appears that not all of them are supported at the moment.

According to the company, the app should work on any handset running under Android 2.3 or newer platform versions, though some users won’t see it as available for them, even if they own handsets or tablets that run under newer OS releases.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown arrives on Android as a graphically rich game with advanced features. In order to ensure that they receive an optimized experience from the title, users are advised to turn off other applications before launching it.

In this game, players will need to recruit and level-up soldiers, while also having the option to discover new weapons and technology.

“Threatened by an unknown enemy, Earth’s governments unite to form an elite paramilitary organization, known as XCOM,” the game’s description reads.

“As the commander of XCOM, you must create a fully operational base, research alien technologies, plan combat missions, and lead your soldiers in fierce battles against a terrifying alien invasion.”

Each of the decisions that players make in XCOM: Enemy Unknown will affect the fate of humanity, 2K Games, Inc. also notes.

Moreover, the game will provide them with the possibility to play a series of randomly generated missions, as well as to engage in strategic combat with foes.

The game also comes with a series of enhanced touch controls, which have been designed specifically for mobile users, so as to ensure they receive the best possible experience when playing it.

A future update is set to provide users with the possibility to challenge other Android players via asynchronous multiplayer capabilities, which will be handled through the Google Game Services, SlashGear reports.

The mobile publisher also warns that the content of the video game is completely fictional, and that users should not engage in any conduct that is depicted in the title.

You can download XCOM: Enemy Unknown for Android from Softpedia today. The game is available with a price tag of $9.99 (€7.2) attached to it, and it is quite huge, at 3.6GB.
