The development team at Firaxis and publisher 2K Games has released a long video which shows the upcoming XCOM: Enemy Unknown in action, with a lot of skirmishes that demonstrate how the strategy game works.

Jake Solomon, one of the leading developers working on XCOM: Enemy Unknown, offers commentary while the game is being played and there’s an audience that reacts pretty strongly to the struggles and the successes of the human team.

The new XCOM offers the same core gameplay as the old title from the ‘90’s but updates them with modern touches.

The player needs to direct overall strategy, research, manufacturing and soldier recruitment, but he also handles a team in the field, fighting aliens in turn-based engagements to protect Earth.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be launched on the PC, the Xbox 360 from Microsoft and the PlayStation 3 on October 9 in North America and October 12 in Europe.
